The 3 things you MUST know about Wrong Fuel!

AdBlue In Diesel

All over Suffolk we have discovered an increasing number of cases of AdBlue contamination where a motorist has put AdBlue right into their diesel tank. This is in part a result of drivers not understanding the right way to use it (be aware: it is actually not a fuel additive), and to some extent simply because the filler caps for diesel and AdBlue are often right next to one another on the vehicle.

Now, what is the trouble with putting AdBlue in your diesel tank?

Since AdBlue is predominantly deionised water, it's just like pouring water in to your tank. Diesel and water tend not to mix in the slightest and attempting to run a diesel car on water does not work. In addition to this, the urea is quite corrosive to fuel system lines and seals and is prone to crystallisation, blocking injectors and filters. Assuming you put AdBlue into the fuel tank drain it at the earliest opportunity. And certainly be careful not to start up the motor - not even to maneuver it to a parking spot. In the instance that you have started the car you may in all probability need to have the whole fuel system flushed and fuel filters changed.

Call us if you are suffering from AdBlue contamination. We can help you. We are Contaminated Fuel Specialists and are able to correct all kinds of AdBlue liquid contamination.

Marine Fuel Drains

If there is the incorrect fuel, or perhaps contaminated fuel (most commonly water contamination or old fuel) in a boat we can help you remove it. Assuming that the boat is either on land, or parked close enough to a car or truck parking bay we should be able to reach the fuel storage and drain out the fuel. We have done numerous fuel drains at marinas and boatyards in the uk.

I had a fantastic afternoon fishing on my holiday and was feeling pleased the following morning as I set out to help a new family who were on holiday in Upper Street. They had pulled over after inserting petrol into their elegant Toyota Solara, and the car was approximately an hour away. I arrived at their position and smiled as I heard to the wife telling her spouse off for actually being so foolish. "How could you conceivably find a way to fill up by using the wrong fuel?" she said to him. I tried to tell her that this comes to pass regularly in Suffolk and that it's nothing at all to stress about, even so he yet still had his ear bent by his better half. I felt sorry for the chap. In any case, I extracted the polluted fuel, flushed the engine and filled them up with the correct fuel. While watching them drive away I mouthed farewell and pondered on what her indoors would say to me if ever I did the exact same thing... I'd personally never live it down!

No matter whether you're in a brand new car or an outdated style, we have the gear along with experience to repair the problem right there. We get rid of the wrong fuel, handle any complications caused as a result of the misfueling, and get you going.

Wrong Fuel in Car Suffolk - Petrol in Diesel Car Upper Street

Now I'm not ever so keen on carrying out work weekends, and a while back was the same. I'd just come away from home after eating a magnificent dinner cooked for us by the missus, and I was on the way to help a gentleman who had filled the wrong petrol in his trusty Peugeot 309. He was located in Upper Street therefore I was on scene rapidly. As I pulled up right behind the vehicle and got out he said to me "Praise the Almighty! I had my concentration on stuff and did not perceive I had put the wrong fuel in my petrol car. I need to know if I brought about harm through driving it?" I stated generally there probably should not be harm and that I'd personally remove the contaminated fuel at once. Naturally I drained the fuel from the car and put in some suitable fuel, and so another delighted client was able to carry on with his journey without the hassle. The man couldn't stop saying thanks to me, and this is what can make working on weekends in Suffolk just a small bit less painful to me!

This was certainly what is called the night shift. It was close to sunrise and almost noone was about. It had been quite quiet so far, and Mark and I were sitting browsing a number of old magazines. It was a rare tranquil moment in Suffolk. Actually it was in fact so quiet that when the telephone inevitably rang I jumped with surprise! The person on the other end explained: "I have just finished my night shift and stupidly put the wrong fuel in my diesel super Mitsubishi Eclipse in error". I told him to inform us where he was and we hit the road, ending up in Upper Street only an hour later. The contaminated fuel was cleaned up and removed from the vehicle and he said many thanks for coming so fast. As we were heading back to the depot we noticed two ladies on the edge of the street who appeared to have a flat tyre. Obviously we pulled over to change it, to their delight.

How to find out if I put the wrong fuel in my car?

If you’ve just filled up at a petrol station and the cars starts to act a bit strange you might start to wonder if you accidentally put the wrong fuel in it.

Well, there are a few things to can check that will be able to tell you:

  1. How is the car responding? There are some very common misfuel symptoms which can be a good indicator of wrong fuel:
    • Loss of engine power – can feel like the car has run out of fuel
    • A lot of smoke (more than usual)
    • Engine coughing or starting to splutter
    • Won’t start – or keeps stalling.
  2. Look at your fuel receipt. It will state clearly if you filled up with diesel or unleaded. If you don’t have the receipt, you can often return to the petrol station where you filled up and give them the date and time (and pump) where you refueled and they will often be able to give you a VA receipt.
  3. Smell it. Diesel and petrol have very distinctly different smells. Anyone familiar with the motor industry should be able to help you with this. Or you could even get another car to park alongside and smell the fuel caps of both, comparing them to determine what the fuel type is.
  4. Call us to come out and assess the car. In the majority of cases we will be able to tell if the car has been misfueled before beginning work on it. If we discover that the vehicle does not need a fuel drain, you will only be charged a call-out fee.
